The concept of an inverted bow that Nelo premiered in the Cinco models and later expanded to the Six canoes was one of the biggest innovations in canoeing. Its design allowed for faster, more efficient boats, as proven with the amount of titles already won.

This innovation is so disruptive that was awarded with a patent that certifies its innovative and functional characteristics. It is the first patent of its kind in the sport.

The patent covers all paddle boats, including canoeing and rowing.

Nelo Coach App

Nelo launches complete app solution for paddling.

An app that is the perfect partner for paddling sessions, together with a web solution to analyse, compare and improve training.

For years paddlers had to resort to solutions built for other sports to be able to monitor and track their activities and paddling sessions. And the apps designed for canoeing had several limitations.
Nelo has always been spearheading technology innovations in boats and bringing new tools to paddlers. For some time we have been looking at all the current solutions on the market and listening to who matters the most - paddlers - to understand what are the major needs and key issues for this kind of product. Together with all our know-how, we believed that we could provide better.

Nelo Coach divides itself in two components:
1. An Android app for mobile devices for the paddler to take with him on the boat. The app tracks the training sessions and provides real time data such as speed, distance, time, strokes per minute, distance per stroke, among others. The athlete even has the chance to create laps to provide analysis on partial stretches.
Safety is also a major concern and the app comes equipped with a Safe Mode feature. When activated, the app can automatically or manually send a stress warning to selected emergency contacts.

2. A web application where the sessions are uploaded to. A wide range of analysis tools are available, like dividing the session in smaller sections, access full and per lap totals, split by distance or time with partials, store, tag and organize the sessions by boat type or simply by date and share on facebook. The comparison chart allows to quickly measure the progress and check where it can improve.

The app is available at Google Play Store for EUR 19.99, USD 19.99 and GBP 14.99: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nelocoach.mobile.android

Canoe Marathon Worlds

Canoe Marathon went to the USA this year, our marathon was the logistics operation of doing in the US what we usually do in Europe.

After all a big part of the paddlers relies on our service team for small repairs, last minute adjustments, handles, pumps and much more! This race was no different with the service team working non-stop, to only later enjoy the athletes perform at their best with the boat all set up to their wishes.

Marathon was the first discipline where Nelo collected medals back in the 80s so it is for us an emblematic discipline, and we try hard to keep on the edge of the development and adjustments, the past years we corrected and improved a lot of items with that intent.

Results could hardly be better as we missed only a couple of gold medals across the entire weekend! And got 85% of the medals!

Thank you to all those paddlers that in Oklahoma helped us getting better and congratulations to all those that achieved their goals, to the ones that didn’t: see you in Gyor!

Race Report Pan American championships

Pan American Games will take place next year in Toronto in what is one of the biggest multi sport events in the world and where canoeing plays an important role.

This week took place in Mexico the qualifier for those Games as well as the Pan Am Championships.

Our presence was just a follow up of a continued support to the Games since 2007 in Rio and Guadalajara 2011 and of course now heading to Toronto 2015.

Being a qualifier and a bit off season, one would expect the teams to take the racing a bit easier but in fact as soon the gun went we were able to assist to some great racing.

We were happy to see that 95% of the boats competing at this Championships were ours what give us a great boost of confidence for the work to be done in the Americas in the coming years.

Now time to turn out eyes to Slalom Worlds!

European Champs are always an exciting race with the teams trialing their crews for the bigger events to come, but still with such prestigious medals to be taken, no one is able to take it too lightly.

In the boat prep is pretty much the same , as the the Worlds approach the teams want to make sure their equipment is all set, but they still want to do well!

Weather conditions were very challenging and even extreme for the first 2 days, and than settled for the last day.

To name all the extraordinary performances of the weekend would be a very very very long text, as just in Olympic events we got 27 medals of the 36 possible, in what was a solid stat.

But we leave you some quick facts and performances that are worth remembering and even revisit:

1. Hungarian Ladies Team that won 4 of the 4 gold medals in Olympic events, with Danuta Kozak (K1 Quattro M) wining both K1s and taking part also in the K4 gold, Gabriela Szabo and Tamara Csipes won the K2 500, to this we must add that ALL the medals in Olympic events for girls were in Nelo.

2. In the 200 mt event only one medal was not in Nelo Kayaks or Canoes, with 11 out of 12, impressive Serbian Marko (K1 Quattro XXL) Ed Mckeever (K1 Quattro L) Yuri Postrigay (K1 Quattro L), Danuta Kozak (K1 Quattro M) Elena Terekhova (K1 Quattro M) Teresa Portela (K1 Quattro M) , Rauhe/Liebscher (K2 Quattro XXL), Postrigay/Dyachenko (K2 Quattro L) Lankas/Ramanauskas (K2 Quattro XXL) , and in the C1 events Alfonso Benavides (C1 V3 2 H) and Helder Silva (C1 Cinco L) took Silver and Bronze.

3. Czech K4 that renewed their title with a solid performance proving they are back on their A game!

4. Rene Poulsen that came home with 3 silver medals, consistent performances.

5. Czech C2 that even struggling with conditions on Friday managed to come back on saturday to get yet another medal.

6. K2 1000 some of the faster times of all times being achieved, Hybois/Hubert (K2 Quattro L) and Tarr/Vlcek (K2 Quattro XXL) joined Germany in the sub 3,08 podium!

7. Martin Fuksa that was one of the victims of the side wind on saturday, came home to an amazing performance on the C1 500 winning the first senior top level gold medal for the Cinco!

8. Tom Liebscher just did one of the most spetacular K1 500 meters ever seen, for sure worth to watch the video again and again.

9. Max Hoff , Rene Poulsen, Fernando Pimenta and Daniel Pauman closed the Europeans with an entertaining ,exciting and fast race, with Max taking the gold for Germany!

Now time for a road trip to Szeged to meet the future of our Sport in the Jun U23 World Champs!

2013 Canoe Sprint Worlds Race Report

Post Olympic is normally referred as bit more relaxed and less stressful, that is not the feeling at all as the teams, coaches and athletes were ate top of their game on the weekend, we as Nelo did not wanna be any different so we took our A game and went trough over 200 boats, from repairs to trimming to fixing parts, a bit of everything.

Not familiar if it is common in other sports to have the Para Events together with the World Championships, but being or not common we are proud our sport took that option it is a sign of how universal and versatile our sport is, well done CANOEING!

From our point of view it was the most successful Worlds of all times, we got a total of 27 medals in 36 possible in Olympic events , from all the classes and countries came medals and great performances. We know we are just a small part of it but is an amazing experience when we get the recognition on a gift, on a post on a tweet or just in a thank you, that more than any gold medal makes us know we are on the right track!

Rio is just around the corner, so only time to keep the spirits high and keep working.
